The Island of Murter
The Island of Murter has a population of 5,100 people and border's
North and Central Dalmatia. It is approximately 60 minutes from
Zadar and Split, both of which are served by international airports,
and is an ideal starting point for various sport and other recreational
activities.
Murter is the departure point to the Kornati National Marine Park.
The "Kornati" offers sailing enthusiasts, scuba divers
and other water fanatic's a once in a life time experience. National
Parks located on the Croatian mainland, amongst others Krka, Paklenica
and the Plitvice Lakes, are within an hour's drive from Murter and
are an "Eldorado" for hikers, climbers and bicyclist's.
Sight-seeing is abundant in the historical towns of Split, Sibenik,
Trogir and Zadar and are only a short-drive from Murter. Their historical
town centres are rich in history, culture and architecture and are
awaiting to be re-discovered!
On Murter, Olive and Cypress trees set the scene and are complimented
by the island's abundant hidden coves and its four villages which
have preserved their Mediterranean charm. The island atmosphere
and picturesque fishing villages offer a truly romantic holiday
and the hospitality of the locals is uncomparable, whereas newcomers
often finds themselves walking away from the local butcher shop
with a half a kilogram of the famous Dalmation prosciutto as a gift
from the butcher!
Murter is easily accessible via a draw-bridge connecting it with
the Croatian mainland village of Tisno. The bridge opens two times
daily, for 30 minutes to allow water traffic to pass; once at 8:30
and again at 17:30.
Murter offers visitors the attractiveness of an island combined
with the accessibility and wide range of activities and conveniences
of the Croatian mainland.
Due to the stress-free and easy access to the island, you can bring
your own automobile if you want! As well as your bicycles, boats,
scuba gear, tennis rackets, basket and soccer ball
